The Relationship between Accuracy and Resolution of Digital Pressure Gauge

The accuracy and resolution of a digital pressure gauge are two key performance indicators, and their relationship is as follows:

1. Accuracy
Definition: Accuracy refers to how close a measured value is to the true value, usually expressed as a percentage of the full scale.
Influencing Factors: It is affected by the quality of the sensor, circuit design, environmental conditions, etc.
Representation: For example, ±1% FS indicates that the measurement error does not exceed 1% of the full scale.

2. Resolution
Definition: Resolution is the smallest pressure change that the gauge can display, typically represented by the number of digits or the smallest unit Influencing Factors: It is primarily determined by the bit count of the A/D converter and the display digits.

Representation: For example, 0.01 bar means the gauge can display pressure changes as small as 0.01 bar.

3. Relationship

Independent but Related: High resolution does not necessarily imply high accuracy, but high accuracy usually requires sufficient resolution to display minute changes.
Practical Application: When selecting a gauge, both accuracy and resolution must be considered to ensure measurements are both accurate and detailed.

4. Examples


High Resolution, Low Accuracy: The gauge displays changes of 0.01 bar, but the actual error might be up to ±0.1 bar.

High Accuracy, High Resolution: The gauge displays changes of 0.01 bar, and the error is only ±0.01 bar.

5 Summary

Accuracy reflects the correctness of the measurement, while resolution reflects the fineness of the measurement. Together, they determine the overall performance of a digital pressure gauge.
